Of course, the mechanics of both games are pretty much identical. Plus, they're now divided in zones so if you get stuck ok a level, you can simply try another one from the same zone and come to back it later. Super Monkey Ball 2 was made with the idea of it being a console game to begin with, with a higher number of stages, unlimited continues that encourage creativity in beating the levels. This makes taking shortcuts or trying new things much riskier, since you might need that extra life in a later, harder level. SMB1 was a port of the arcade game so you're supposed to go over and over multiple times through every stage until you can beat all of the expert levels with the limited continues the game gives you. However, even if they look similar, they're actually quite different in structure. As we all know, there are only 2 good Super Monkey Ball games, and coincidentally they're the first two games in the series (3 if you count Deluxe as its own game). In case you missed the news, SEGA just filed a trademark in Taiwan for a new Super Monkey Ball game for PC, PS4 and Switch (the game had already been rated before, but many thought it was going to be a mobile game).
